Which refrigerant your car uses matters most
The biggest single factor in the price of a service is the refrigerant. Vehicles built up to roughly 2017 use R134a, which is relatively inexpensive. Vehicles from about 2017 onwards use R1234yf, which costs many times more per kilogram and needs separate equipment and a licensed operator to handle. A quote for one is not a quote for the other.
The second factor is how much your system holds. A small hatchback might take 400 grams; a dual-cab ute with rear vents considerably more; a prime mover or an excavator cab several kilograms. We charge by weight to your vehicle's specification, so the refrigerant cost follows the vehicle.
The third is whether the system is simply low or actually leaking. If it is empty, we will recommend finding the leak first — otherwise you pay for refrigerant twice, which is the most common way people waste money on air conditioning.
