A failed compressor is the expensive end of this work, and it is almost always a symptom rather than the cause — low refrigerant, a blocked expansion valve, or moisture that turned the oil acidic. Replacing the compressor alone, without fixing the cause or clearing out the metal debris it shed, is how people end up buying two.
So we flush the system to clear particles, always renew the receiver-drier or accumulator, replace the expansion valve or orifice tube where contamination is present, and set the oil charge to the new compressor’s specification. Skipping the drier voids most compressor warranties.
Condensers are the other common replacement: they sit at the very front of the car collecting every stone off the freeway, and a pin-hole in an aluminium condenser tube is the most frequent leak we find. We will tell you honestly when a repair is not worth it against the vehicle’s value.
